Skuad negara sasar kemenangan tanpa Josiah

Stanley, Shahrin Amir, Ghazali Hakiki, Mohd. Hafiz Rosli (lelaki), Masziaton Mohd. Radzi dan Junaidah Juss (wanita).

Detik penentuan buat 3 penembak

Tengku Adnan: We can retain gold

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have a fighting chance to retain the regu gold medal in the Korat SEA Games in December despite having a relatively young set of players.

The sepaktakraw team's coaching chairman Tengku Adnan Tengku Burhanuddin said the odds would be stacked heavily against them after surprising fancied Thailand at the Manila SEA Games in 2005.

“There is no doubt the Thais have the edge over us in terms of skills and experience but there is still a fighting chance for our boys in Korat,” said Tengku Adnan, on the progress of the Malaysian team playing in the on-going International Grand Prix sepaktakraw championships.

After the opening three legs of the inaugural championship since last month, the Malaysian regu's have claimed several podium finishes, including emerging champions in the second leg of the circuit in Kuala Lumpur. They finished runners-up twice to the Thais in the opening leg in Johor and the third leg in Penang.

The nine teams involved in the five legs of the championship are Canada, Myanmar, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, China, Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Sea Games: High expectations from Korat contingent

SPORTS Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is confident that Malaysia will win more than the projected target of 61 gold medals at the Korat Sea Games on Dec 6-15.

"As we will probably be sending our biggest ever Sea Games contingent to Korat, I believe we should surpass the gold medal target," Azalina told reporters after launching the FitKid World Championships at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

"However, we need to take into account several aspects before taking for granted that a bigger contingent will ensure a bigger haul.

"The number of athletes will be bigger this time around but some of them will be competing in Korat for exposure purposes. It will be good that if they can also win medals.

"However, we will send out best athletes as the expectations of the general public is high," she said.
Azalina also said it will be tough for the Malaysian athletes to pose serious challenges in several events in which the host country excels in.

"Some events which we are strong in have been dropped but that does not mean Malaysia will not achieve or surpass the medal target. We have other events which we are good enough to win gold medals."

Meanwhile, Azalina said the Ministry has identified several strategies to inculcate a sporting culture among school children.

"One of it is the probability of hosting a FitKid national championships next year. As not much facilities are needed for FitKid competitions, we will also introduce the sport in schools," she said.

Korat-bound athletes complete motivational camp in Malacca

JOHOR BARU: A total of 41 athletes who have been shortlisted to represent Malaysia in aquatics, fencing and bodybuilding at the SEA Games in Korat, Thailand, completed their first phase of motivational training at a camp in Asahan, Malacca, yesterday.

The three-day camp organised by the National Sports Council (NSC) was led by the head of the NSC’s Welfare Department, Zaiton Othman.

According to NSC’s media relations manager Fahmi Omar, the camp was part of NSC’s programmes and activities to build esprit de corps before the Games in December.

“It’s also to motivate the athletes to do their best at the Games,” said Fahmi.

“Although not all of them will be selected by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to compete in the Games, the experience would be invaluable for them,” he said, adding that more such camps would be held to ensure all Games-bound athletes got a chance to participate in it. – Bernama

“FAM perlu melalui perubahan sepenuhnya termasuk strukturnya,” kata Tunku Imran.

OCM Wants Names Of Team Managers For SEA Games By Month End

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) wants the National Sports Associations (NSAs) to name their team managers for the Korat SEA Games in Thailand by end of this month.

SEA Games chef-de-mission Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the respective sports associations had been asked to submit names of their team managers by July 31 to help the OCM in the task ahead.

"Since we are taking part in 40 out of 43 sports contested and Malaysia will be sending a big contingent, we have to plan well in advance," he said today.

The OCM had submitted an initial list of 1,170 athletes and officials for the Korat SEA Games before the deadline for `entry by numbers' on July 8.

However, the final figure may not be 1,170 when the OCM submits the `entry by names' before the Oct 8 deadline.

On the preparations for the Games, to be held from Dec 6 to 15, Zainal said that since the athletes had been training locally and in foreign countries, all that needed to be done now was to boost their morale through the psychological approach.

"My aim is to give them the psychological edge when they go into competition as they have already been training very hard for the event. I also want to emphasise discipline and dedication.

"Being national athletes, they should display a high level of discipline and be aware of their responsibilities to the country. On our part, we need to give them moral support and motivation to boost their level of concentration to win medals," he said.

Zainal said he would start his rounds of the respective sports soon to see the athletes in training and listen to their views on their preparations for the Games.

As for targets, Zainal feels that the Malaysian contingent should perform better than in the 2005 Manila SEA Games.

Malaysia finished fourth in Manila with 61 gold, 49 silver and 60 bronze medals.

600 atlit, 200 pegawai ke Korat

Kontinjen terbesar negara pernah dihantar menyertai kejohanan Sukan Sea

“Berdasarkan senarai awal penyertaan mengikut angka, jumlahnya melebihi 1,000 orang iaitu atlit, pegawai dan anggota sokongan,” kata Setiausaha Kehormat MOM, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi semalam.
