MTBC Shortlists Keglers For Korat Games

PETALING JAYA, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) has shortlisted eight names in each of the men and women categories for the Korat SEA Games in December.

MTBC secretary-general Sidney Tung said: "They will be trimmed down to the final six who will represent Malaysia in Thailand after they compete in two international championships this month."

The names of the six keglers would be submitted to the Olympic Council of Malaysia at the end of this month, he said at a breaking of fast hosted by the team's main sponsor, Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, at Saujana Resort in Subang Jaya today.

The two international bowling championships are the 9th Chinese Taipei International Open Championship on Oct 6-13 and 2nd Asian Indoor Games in Macau from Oct 26 to Nov 3.

Tung said that the eight women keglers included Shalin Zulkifli, Esther Cheah, Sharon Koh, Wendy Chai and Zandra Aziela who won the team event at the World Women Bowling Championship in Mexico City last month.

In the men category, Alex Liew, Aaron Kong, Daniel Lim and Zulmazran Zulkifli were among them, he said.

Asked on the MTBC's medal target, Tung said the squad would bring back more medals than the previous SEA Games in Manila. Two years ago, Malaysia bagged three golds, three silvers and three bronzes from bowling in Manila.

"I can't specifically say how many medals we will win but we are confident of winning more medals at this upcoming games.

"Among Southeast Asia countries, Malaysia has a very strong bowling team. Malaysia's supremacy stands out in the team event for both men and women categories which will deliver the gold medals at least," he said.
