Pesaka Confident Of Winning Five Golds In Korat

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National Silat Federation (Pesaka) is confident that its exponents will bring home at least five golds from the Korat Sea Games in December compared to only three in Manila two years ago.

"We are confident of achieving the target though the challenge from the hosts cannot be underestimated," Pesaka assistant secretary Bahrin Ibrahim told Bernama here today.

"Thai exponents may have advantages in terms of physical strength as most of them are involved in tomoi but we are better in using techniques," he said.

Other strong competitors were exponents from Vietnam and Indonesia, he added.

For the games in Korat, Thailand, from Dec 6 to 16, which offers 14 golds in the sport, Malaysia will send 17 male and 13 female exponents and they will take part in all events.

To prepare them for the meet, they will participate in the 13th World Silat Championship from Oct 19 to 26 in Kuantan, Pahang.

The exponents had also undergone intensive training and taken part in several other international tournaments before this, Bahrin said.
