KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Council (NSC) and Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) today announced that Malaysia will be represented by the back-up squad for badminton at the Korat SEA Games in Thailand in December.
NSC director-general Datuk Zolkples Embong said Malaysia's squad will be made up of Bukit Jalil Sports School and Project 2010-12 players.
"We are confident of their ability to bring back gold, as we have done in past SEA Games", he told a press conference at Bukit Jalil, here.
However, he said discussions were ongoing with the BAM as well as the coaches on the possibility of sending a senior squad for the women's team.
Meanwhile, the chief coach of the Project 2010-2012 squad, Rashid Sidek, said senior players in the project like Kuan Beng Hong, Gan Teik Chai/Lin Wooi Fui and Lydia Cheah would be part of the back-up squad to Korat to provide guidance for the more junior shuttlers.
He believed that his players would be able to upset the more senior and experienced players from Indonesia and Singapore at the Games.
