Big Payday From Lawn Bowlers

BANGKOK, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's lawn bowlers won four gold, a silver and a bronze when the Korat SEA Games lawn bowls event wrapped up at the Queen Sirikit Sports Centre here Wednesday.

The gold were won by Azim Azami Mohd Ariffin and Mohd Amir Mohd Yusof in the men's doubles; Khairul Anuar Abdul Kadir, Mohd Azwan Shuhaimi and Fairul Izwan Abdul Muin (men's triples); Emma Firyana Saroji and Azlina Arshad (women's pairs) and Maisarah Aminludin, Nor Fidrah Noh, and Nor Hashimah Ismail (women's triples).

However, Melbourne Commonwealth Games and Asian Games gold medallist Siti Zalina Ahmad could only manage a silver in the women's singles while Safuan Said, the world Number One, had to be contented with the bronze in the men's.

Malaysian Lawl Bowls Federation president Tan Sri Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid said he was satisfied with the overall performance of the national lawn bowlers.

"However, luck was not on the side of Siti Zalina and Safuan today," he said.

Thailand's Songsin Tsao was Siti Zalina's nemesis winning by a mere point (20-21). Rosita Bradborn of the Philippines took the bronze.

In the men's singles, Hj Naim Brahim of Brunei won the gold while Singapore's Chia Tee Chiak took the bronze.
