One More Gold From Equestrian

BANGKOK, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique's 17-year-old daughter, Syazna Leena Zulhasnan, made a stunning debut in the Korat SEA Games when she helped the Malaysian equestrian team to win the Team Show Jumping gold here today.

Syazna Leena, riding "Helu de Caudard", completed the course together with national ace Qabil Ambak Mahamad Fathil, Syed Omar Syed Abu Bakar Almohdzar and Quzier Ambak Mahamad Fathil as Malaysia continued their domination in equestrian at the Thai Polo Club here by winning all the three gold offered so far.

No silver and bronze medals were awarded as the other teams, from the Philippines and Thailand, were eliminated.

Zulhasnan and his family were at the range to support Syazna.

"All our riders did very well. Thailand were very close after the first round but they had riders eliminated in the second round," said team manager Dr S. Selvarajah.

He said that both Qabil Ambak, 27, who has already bagged two gold medals from the dressage team and individual, and Syed Omar have qualified for the individual (show jumping) final on Wednesday.

Dr Selavaraj said the team's performance surpassed the one-gold feat in the 2005 Manila SEA Games where Qabil Ambak won the individual show jumping gold while the team came in second. Only the show jumping event was held in 2005.

"The target set for equestrian is four gold and we are confident of achieving that. Anything more will be a bonus for the team and the Malaysian contingent," he added.

In the eventing event to be held at the Thai Polo Club also on Wednesday, Malaysia will be represented by Tunku Nazroff Tunku Moksin, S. Lingesparan, Johari Lee, Amir Zulkefle and Eric Lee Chin Hon.
